Director of Fiber

We’re seeking an experienced Director of Fiber to lead and manage fiber design, planning, engineering, and construction projects from inception through completion. This role is critical to ensuring the successful delivery of fiber projects that meet customer expectations for quality and timeliness while adhering to financial and operational goals. The Director will also drive customer service excellence, manage client relationships, and grow the Fiber division. The ideal candidate will bring at least ten years of fiber OSP construction experience and five years of leadership experience in telecommunications. 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Market Expansion

  • Drive the fiber expansion effort in geographic areas served by ETS, selecting expansion locations aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Support market expansion initiatives for fiber network deployment, working closely with sales, marketing, and engineering teams to drive growth.
  • Organize and lead the East Construction group, overseeing market expansion, commercial and carrier projects, infrastructure modifications, and permitting processes.

Project Design & Execution

  • Lead Outside Plant (OSP) design, planning, and construction activities for FTTx projects across commercial, residential, SMB, Enterprise, Carrier, and Utility markets.
  • Oversee project engineering to ensure compliance with design standards, financial guidelines, and regulatory requirements, while maintaining high-quality and cost-effective results.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, procurement, project management, finance, marketing, sales, and regulatory) and external partners for successful project execution.

Vendor Management & Contract Negotiation

  • Oversee RFP development and contract negotiation, ensuring competitive bidding and effective cost management.
  • Manage vendor and contractor selection, monitoring performance to ensure all work is completed according to standards, schedules, and contractual commitments.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage and mentor supervisors, regional construction managers, and individual contributors, ensuring project goals and KPIs are met.
  • Build and manage a high-performing team, providing leadership and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Budgeting & Financial Oversight

  • Develop and manage project budgets, including labor costs, forecasting resources, and ensuring on-time, on-budget completion of projects.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of contractors and vendors, ensuring cost-effective project delivery.

Compliance & Quality Control

  • Coordinate with local municipalities and regulatory bodies to obtain permits and ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Implement and enforce OSP construction standards and specifications, conducting rigorous testing and quality control to ensure project compliance.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in fiber OSP construction and implementation.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing large teams and multiple projects.
  • Strong understanding of OSP planning, engineering, and construction processes.
  • Proven experience managing FTTx (Fiber to the x) projects, including residential, commercial, and MDU deployments.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams.
  • Experience developing and managing project budgets and working with contractors.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet insurance eligibility requirements. 
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check. 
  • Ability to travel up to 50% for business needs.
